According to Rick Stroud, Bowles addressed the team’s eventful offseason by emphasizing that the Buccaneers remain focused on what happens on the field rather than the noise surrounding the organization.
“Mike Evans signs with SFO. Vita Vea asks for a trade. Baker Mayfield can’t get an extension,” Stroud wrote before adding Bowles’ message: “His team just makes it about ball and isn’t concerned.”
It’s a notable stance considering the number of high-profile storylines surrounding Tampa Bay entering the 2026 season. Franchise icon Mike Evans departed in free agency earlier this offseason, defensive tackle Vita Vea is currently participating in a hold-in after requesting a trade, and quarterback Baker Mayfield has yet to reach a contract extension despite publicly expressing his desire to remain with the Buccaneers long term.
Rather than allowing those situations to dominate the conversation, Bowles appears intent on maintaining the same steady approach that has helped guide Tampa Bay to three consecutive NFC South titles. His message to the team is simple: control what can be controlled and focus on preparing for the season.
As training camp ramps up, the Buccaneers will continue navigating contract negotiations and roster decisions behind the scenes. Inside the locker room, however, Bowles is making it clear that the priority remains unchanged.
