Specialty cocktails paired with chef-conceived bites and small plates center a series of August and September tasting events at Eau Resort & Spa in Manalapan.
The series kicked off Aug. 6 and continues Aug. 20 with fare inspired by a limited release of ultra-premium bourbons and rye whiskeys from Angel’s Envy.
The tasting will take place at the resort’s Angle restaurant, where the cocktail-and-pairings series also will include events on Sept. 3 and 17.
Each evening ($125 a person) features a welcome cocktail, followed by three cocktails paired with small-plate creations by Angle’s chef de cuisine Joe Oesterwind.
Angle has undergone a recent interior update that lightened and brightened the longtime restaurant at the resort, 100 S. Ocean Blvd.
Along with the interior refresh, Angle shifted its culinary focus last season to present a “coastal take” on the modern American steakhouse. Seafood selections, pastas and vegetarian dishes were added.

Mystery wines at Cafe L’Europe
A fun-spirited competition is set for a dining event at Café L’Europe, especially for wine-lovers: California wines versus French wines?
On Aug. 25, the 40-plus-year-old restaurant, 331 S. County Road. is featuring a wine dinner where the wines served will be tasted “blind” by guests.
That means diners will initially enjoy the pours through four dinner courses without knowing the wines’ provenance.
The wines served during the affair will come from California or France, selected by Café L’Europe sommelier Sergio Cuadros and the evening’s guest, Master Sommelier Andrew McNamara.
Guests can vote on their favorite wines with each course before the wines’ labels are revealed and either California or France is declared the winner.
The wine dinner at Café L’Europe starts with a 6 p.m. cocktail hour. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m.
