The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made three roster moves as they officially opened training camp on Monday.
The Bucs waived undrafted rookie safety Ja’Qurious Conley with an injury designation while also placing cornerback Chase Lucas and defensive tackle Haggai Chisom Ndubuisi on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
Conley signed with Tampa Bay shortly after the 2026 NFL Draft and was looking to carve out a role in a crowded defensive back room. By waiving him with an injury designation, the Buccaneers leave open the possibility that he could revert to injured reserve if he clears waivers.
The other two moves are worth monitoring as camp gets underway. Lucas joined the Buccaneers after spending time with the San Francisco 49ers and previously the Detroit Lions. While he appeared in limited defensive action last season, he earned a strong 87.4 PFF coverage grade across 98 defensive snaps with San Francisco, allowing seven receptions on 11 targets for 58 yards while recording a pass breakup and a 77.1 passer rating allowed. His placement on the PUP list delays his opportunity to compete for a depth role in Tampa Bay’s secondary.
Ndubuisi, meanwhile, was expected to compete for a rotational role behind Vita Vea (who recently asked for a trade to Tampa Bay), A’Shawn Robinson, and Demonte Capehart along the defensive line. Beginning camp on the PUP list gives the Buccaneers additional time to evaluate his recovery while keeping him eligible to return once medically cleared.
These transactions represent routine roster management as Tampa Bay begins training camp, though Lucas and Ndubuisi will be players to watch to make the backend of the roster once they are healthy enough to return to the practice field.
