Former Florida baseball standout Christian Scott has had a strong showing during his 2026 campaign with the New York Mets so far.
Originally drafted by the Mets in the 5th round of the 2021 MLB Draft with the 142nd overall pick, the right-handed pitcher’s ascent into big league ball hit a major roadblock in 2024, when he underwent a hybridized surgery that combined a traditional Tommy John ligament replacement with a stabilizing internal brace that caused him to miss all of the 2025 campaign.
Prior to his injury, Scott threw 47 1/3 innings for New York, posting an 0-3 record with a 4.56 ERA, 4.60 FIP and 1.20 WHIP while striking out 39 against 12 walks issued across that stretch for 0.4 fWAR. He had been a breakout prospect for the franchise up to that point, rising from unranked on the team’s 2023 top 30 prospects list to No. 5 heading into 2024.
So far in 2026, Scott has not only picked up where he left off, he has also made some significant strides in several categories, putting up a 3-3 record with a tidy 2.99 ERA along with a solid 3.47 FIP and 1.24 WHIP over 69 1/3 innings of work for an fWAR of 1.5. While his walks per nine have regressed from 2.3 to 3.9, the Coconut Creek, Florida, native’s home runs per nine have improved from 1.5 to 0.9 and strikeouts per nine have lept from 7.4 to 11.0.
According to Statcast, Scott’s overall pitching run value ranks in the 63rd percentile among major league pitchers, with his fastball run value checking in the 76th percentile. His breaking ball and offspeed run values rate below average, coming in at 48th and 36th, respectively.
Scott’s primary weapon is his four-seam fastball, which he employs half the time and sits just a hair above the MLB average at 95.4 mph; he also offers a cut fastball (17%) and barely used sinker (2%). His two breaking balls are a sweeper (22%) and curveball (6%), while the splitter (4%) represents his only offspeed offering.
The former Gator excels in several of Statcast’s categories, checking into the 89th percentile in strikeout rate as well as his extension. Other areas where he rates higher than the average hurler are hard-hit percentage (77th), average exit velocity (74th), expected batting average (73rd) and barrel percentage (72nd), while his chase percentage (27th), walk percentage (25th) and groundball percentage (11th) land on the lower end of the scale.
The 27-year-old righty dealt with an injury this summer that shelved him on the injured list for a stint — a hip impingement that caused him to miss some time from mid to late June. Since then, he has maintained his spot in the rotation, putting up a 2.83 ERA, 2.96 FIP and 1.08 WHIP with 38 strikeouts and 11 walks over 28 2/3 innings.
Despite Scott’s success this season, the Mets have floundered to a 47-65 record, landing them in the basement of the National League West division despite having the second-largest payroll in all of baseball.

Over 116 2/3 innings stretching across 24 appearances — all starts — Scott has posted a 3.63 ERA, 3.93 FIP and 1.23 WHIP for New York, amassing a 3-6 record along the way. So far, he has averaged 9.57 strikeouts against 3.24 walks per nine innings, along with 1.16 home runs per nine, and has accumulated a total of 2.0 fWAR.
