SEC school is 'trending' for key FSU linebacker target

The FSU Seminoles are a finalist for Rodney Colton, one of their top remaining linebacker targets. They are battling the Ole Miss Rebels and the Colorado Buffaloes for the four-star prospect who is set to commit on Saturday, July 12.

While his recruitment is far from over, one expert believes that one school is starting to separate from the pack. According to Chad Simmons of Rivals, there is the most “buzz” around Ole Miss, and they are “trending.”

“Playing in the SEC has always appealed to Rodney Colton. He likes the defense Pete Golding runs and the fit into the scheme,” he added.

Colton is the No. 245 overall player and No. 16 linebacker in On3’s industry ranking. The Newnan product is also the No. 26 player from Georgia.

The Seminoles already have two linebackers committed in three-star prospects Noah LaVallee and Karon Maycock, but they need to add a blue-chip talent, and Colton is one of their last remaining targets. DQ Forkpa is also set to commit this weekend, but the Florida Gators appear to have the momentum in his recruitment.

While Ole Miss might have the lead, Simmons isn’t ruling out FSU and reported that Colton is “keeping them warm.”

FSU was late to the party for Colton, offering him a scholarship in January. They quickly emerged as a contender for the 6-foot-1, 220-pounder, though, and he visited in April and returned for an official visit in June.
