Sam’s Club members will be able to get an earlier start on Sundays.
Starting Sunday, Oct. 12, the warehouse club will extend its Sunday hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a few exceptions. The move was due to “overwhelming feedback” from its members, Steven Zapata, director of corporate communications at Sam’s Club, confirmed to USA TODAY via email on Oct. 9.
Plus members, the highest-tier-membership level, will continue to be able to shop early, getting early access to stores from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. daily.
Sam’s Club is also changing its holiday hours to remain open till 8 p.m. on Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and New Year’s Eve instead of closing at 6 p.m., Zapata said. Clubs will still close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will remain closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
This marks the first expansion of the chain since 2017. In 2018, the company closed 63 stores, converting some to distribution centers.

More changes coming to Sam’s Club
Sam’s Club, the membership warehouse arm of Walmart, has big plans to expand over the next 10 years. At an investment meeting in April, the company confirmed that 30 new locations will be opening over the next several years, with plans for about 15 more every year.
Sam’s will also be remodeling all of its 600 locations to emphasize a “register-free shopping experience,” a Scan & Go system to add items to their cart, online exclusives and direct shipping.
Earlier this year, Sam’s moved from physical membership cards to apps. On Oct. 6, the company announced members could get same-day delivery of refrigerated medications, including specialized prescriptions such as GLP-1s, insulin and antibiotics.
Florida will be part of the expansion. In April, Walmart opened a 1-million-square-foot distribution center in Jacksonville to serve 18 Sam’s Club locations across Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, as well as seven clubs in Puerto Rico.
That same month, the City of Davenport announced the area was getting its first Sam’s Club, with construction expected to begin in 2026.
Sam’s not the first warehouse to expand hours
In June, fellow membership warehouse retailer Costco announced that executive members would get an extra hour to shop in the mornings and all members would get an extra hour on Saturday evenings.
