Red, white, and blue were on display at Destin’s annual Independence Bike Parade at the track behind the Destin Elementary School on July 1.
Although drizzling rain tried to dampen the spirits, it didn’t slow the children down as they were ready to ride and show off their decorated bikes, strollers and scooters.
And about 15 minutes before they were to hit the track, one at a time for their moment of glory, the rain stopped and the parade went on as planned.
Prior to the ride, the Destin Dolphin cheerleading squad performed a couple of cheers and then the parade of bikes was on, led by Miss Destin 2025 Bella Riggs.
“This event is a long-time tradition for the Destin community, and we are happy to continue this event as it’s a kick-off to the 4th of July celebrations,” said Beatriz Miller, city of Destin recreation supervisor.
“The event was a success regardless of the rain. It opened just in time for the parade, and we couldn’t have been happier,” Miller said.
More than 40 youth participated in the bike parade.
The children were judged on their creativity.
Winners in the bike parade were Hadley White, first; Daisy Davis, second; and Emma Meyer, third.
Best overall went to Grace Dodson and her patriotic plane.
In addition to the parade, the children had a chance to jump in the bounce houses, slides and more.
