After a back injury to starting cornerback Jarrian Jones in the first half, Jacksonville Jaguars’ rookie and No. 2 overall selection in 2025, Travis Hunter, took on a much larger role on the defensive end of the field.
Hunter, who played both ways throughout his prolific collegiate career at Jackson State and Colorado, stepped in to fill Jones’ role at starting cornerback.
According to PFF’s early data, Hunter played 43 snaps on defense against the Bengals, allowing one reception on two targets for 16 yards. He also had a pass breakup.
However, Hunter was also penalized twice, including a 25-yard enforced defensive pass interference with less than two minutes in the fourth quarter. The Bengals would eventually score the go-ahead touchdown on that possession.
On offense, Hunter was targeted six times, resulting in three catches for 22 yards, averaging 7.3 yards per catch. All of his receptions, like last week, came on short-area throws. As a senior in Boulder, Hunter tallied a career-high in receptions (96), receiving yards (1,258), and touchdowns (15) on offense, while setting career-highs in tackles (35), interceptions (4), and forced fumbles (1) on defense, earning the Heisman Trophy. In Jacksonville’s Week 1 win over the Carolina Panthers, he recorded six catches for 33 yards and a tackle on defense.
