Popular restaurant chain may be opening at new Sarasota County site

A popular national restaurant chain may be eyeing another possible Sarasota County location.

Texas Roadhouse is being considered for the developing Venice Crossing Commercial Center. The City of Venice Planning Commission received more information in a recent meeting about plans for the development.

Attorney Jackson Boone presented additional details for the location on Laurel Road, listing potential uses of the area, all of which are vehicle-based businesses, including fast food.

In addition to Texas Roadhouse, several other food chains are being discussed to join the development, including Chick-fil-A, Whataburger and Chipotle. However, none of these locations currently has applications under review.

A Walmart and Home Depot have already been approved for the development.

Texas Roadhouse’s return to Sarasota County

The potential Venice Crossing location would be the second to open in Sarasota County, as a site plan has also been approved for a location in North Port. The closest location is currently on the Manatee County side of Lakewood Ranch.

The restaurant has seen major expansion over the last several years, with two new Florida locations already having opened in 2026, and another set to open in late June. There are currently 49 Texas Roadhouse locations across Florida and 749 nationwide.

Texas Roadhouse Public Relations told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune that they cannot confirm plans for the Venice Crossings locations at this time.

First Texas Roadhouse opened in Indiana in 1993 followed by a Sarasota location

The first Texas Roadhouse opened in Clarksville, Indiana, in 1993, according to the company’s website.

The company also appears to have operated a Sarasota County location in the mid-1990s, according to historical references and social media posts, though the claim could not be independently verified.

Texas Roadhouse is based in Louisville, Kentucky.

“Today’s made-from-scratch food (at a great value) and legendary service began with a dream sketched on a cocktail napkin,” the company said.

“Texas Roadhouse was founded upon providing fresh, quality food for a value, which is why we make our food from scratch, even the bacon bits, croutons and dressing.

“Texas Roadhouse is famous for its hand-cut steaks, fall-off-the-bone ribs, made-from-scratch sides, and fresh-baked bread,” the company said.

Steaks are “hand-cut by our in-house meat cutters and are always fresh, never frozen.

“Every table is seated with fresh-baked bread and honey-cinnamon butter. It’s our way of welcoming you.”

Texas Roadhouse is open for dinner-only during the week, although restaurants are open for lunch on weekends.
