The Hub at Feather Oaks on Miccosukee Road is bringing on a new food concept, Rustic Grub. The casual indoor-outdoor venue perfect for “Tallahassee weekenders” has a new partnership that draws on the expertise of brothers and restaurateurs Jesse and Tyler Rice.
You may recognize the Rice family from their other ventures: their farm-to-table Southern food restaurant Backwoods Crossing on Mahan Drive and seafood-focused eatery Trident in Panacea.
But the brothers, who are opening and managing the kitchen, have more tricks up their sleeves for the venue, which has been home to weekend getaways with concerts, events, gatherings and locally sourced beers since opening its Tallahassee location in 2023.
No opening date has been shared just yet, and representatives from The Hub could not be immediately reached for comment.
Previously, The Hub hosted a number of food trucks on the site which they still plan to host the next few months and at all of the East Town Get Down music events.
News of the partnership has spread as the companies announced the collaboration on Facebook Aug. 12.
Fans of the Rice family’s other concepts reacted with excitement in the comments.
One user said, “Genius! I love when the best of Tallahassee comes together!”
Another user said, “Well that’s the best news I’ve heard all day.”
While they have only published a rough draft of the menu, people are already making their requests for what they’d like to see. Here is a little taste of what they’ve cooked up so far.
Highlights of the Rustic Grub menu (so far)
On the “Sharing is Caring” section of the menu you can find loaded truffle fries made with crinkle cut fries, bacon crumble, scallions and a truffle parm-cream sauce ($16) as well as “Sweet Heat Hot Tots.” These are sweet potato tots, roasted corn, smashed avocado, scallions and jalapeno crema.
Smash burgers include “Bacon is Kingly,” made with three smash patties, “all the bacon,” cheddar, lettuce, tomato and Southern barbecue sauce ($22). Other options include the chicken bacon ranch sandwich, tuna poke wrap and veggie hummus wrap.
Bowl options include the Southern shrimp and grits, a buffalo chicken mac and tuna poke.
