1. Yale Spizzwinks(?) in Satellite Beach
Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents the Yale Spizzwinks(?), the zany a capella underclassmen from Yale, at Satellite High School’s performing arts center, 300 Scorpion Court, Satellite Beach, at 7 p.m. Jan. 3. The program includes a broad repertoire of exclusively original arrangements from the past 112 years, including jazz standards, ballads, show tunes, pop and rock music and humorous numbers. 2. Walking History tour of Old Melbourne Beach
Join town historians and authors Frank Thomas and Bruce Morgan on a free walking history tour of Old Melbourne Beach on Jan. 1 at 10 a.m. The group will meet at the Melbourne Beach Pier, 507 Ocean Ave. The walk will be less than one mile while comparing today’s historical structures to century-old photographs. 3. Winter Market in Melbourne Beach
There will be a Winter Market at Nancy Higgs Community Center, 500 Old Florida Trail, Melbourne Beach, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6. 4. Auditions at Henegar Center
The Henegar Center, 625 E. New Haven Ave., Melbourne, will hold auditions for the musical “Prince of Egypt” on Sunday and Monday, Jan. 4 and 5, from 5 to 10 p.m. Music from the show, scenes or choreography will be taught at the night of auditions. Some performers may be asked to attend callbacks on the same night of their audition. To secure a time slot for your audition, email auditions@henegar.org with your SATB vocal part, preferred date and time and performer headshot. Performance dates are March 6 through 29. 5. First Friday Art Walk in EGAD
Every first Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Eau Gallie Arts District buzzes with energy as artists and small businesses pop up both outside and inside shops, turning Highland Avenue into a lively hub of creativity. Stroll through the district to discover unique handmade items and art, and support local makers and businesses. 6. ‘Plant Market & More’ in Viera
Viera Park Market & Food Trucks hosts the “Plant Market & More” food truck event at Viera Regional Park, 2300 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2. 7. Ranger-led tour of Turkey Creek Sanctuary
Turkey Creek Sanctuary, 1518 Port Malabar Blvd NE, Palm Bay, offers free ranger-led tours on the first and third Sundays of each month, excluding holidays, from 10 to 11 a.m. Participants should meet at the sanctuary Nature Center and bring sturdy tennis shoes or boots, sunscreen, insect repellent, water, snacks, binoculars and a hat. Tours will take place on the boardwalk and various trails. Each tour will be led by a park ranger and will focus on common plants and animals found in the sanctuary. Total distance for tours is approximately 1 to 1.5 miles and should take about 1.5 hours to complete. Admission is free. To sign up, call the Nature Center at 321-676-6690 or visit turkeycreek.org.
8. Free boat trip to Samsons Island
Samsons Island is a 52-acre passive nature island in the Banana River, accessible only by water, with docks on the south, east and north sides of the island for public use. The city provides free eco tours with boat transportation to the island on the first Sunday of each month, departing at 9 a.m. from the Satellite Beach Fire Department, 1390 S. Patrick Drive. Guests will return back to the dock by noon. Reservations are required due to limited availability. Call 321-773-6458 or visit satellitebeach.gov.
9. Lawndale Museum in Rockledge
Lawndale Museum, 1219 Rockledge Drive, is open for community visits and information tours each Saturday from 10a.m. to 3 p.m. This elegant, authentically decorated home and beautiful outdoor environment was completed in 1880. Admission is a $10 donation, or free for kids. Visit friendsoflawndale.com.
10. Open house at Green Gables
Green Gables, 1501 S. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne, hosts an open house every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The historic home is a living history museum showcasing life in the early years of Melbourne. Visitors will learn about the history of the Wells family, who played a key role in the development of the community. The cost is $10, or free for children 12 and younger. Visit greengables.org.
