Permanently closed: After 45 years in Cocoa, Kay's is officially shuttered.

After 45 unforgettable years, Kay’s Bar-B-Q has officially closed its doors — marking the end of an era for one of Cocoa’s most cherished dining landmarks.

For generations, the restaurant has been a staple in the community, first opening as Fat Boys Bar-B-Q before becoming Kay’s more than three decades ago.

Known for its hearty barbecue and welcoming atmosphere, Kay’s has long been a place where locals gathered for comfort food and connection.

Following the passing of owner Valerie “Kay” Keller on July 3, 2025, her husband and partner of 37 years, Juan Azpiri, made the difficult decision to close the restaurant.

Azpiri said he’s looking forward to embracing a well-earned retirement — though the decision to say goodbye to Kay’s and his beloved staff was not made lightly.
