Orange City announces new chief of police

The Orange City Police Department has a new police chief.

According to a news release from the city, Jerome Miller, a former deputy chief for the city of Apopka, replaced Wayne Miller, who retired from the department two weeks ago.

Wayne Miller served 11 years as police chief for the Orange City Police Department.

Jerome Miller’s leadership of the department took effect Jan. 31. He had been the acting police chief since January and was the department’s deputy chief, according to the news release.

The news release said Miller brings nearly three decades of law enforcement experience to the department. The new chief has had a career spanning patrol operations, investigations, administration and executive leadership.

Miller, who is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, holds a master’s degree in criminal justice and criminology from Sam Houston State University and a bachelor’s degree in public affairs and psychology from Texas Southern University.
