One dead in early-morning cargo trailer fire in southwest Tallahassee

The Tallahassee Fire Department is investigating a deadly blaze that broke out early Wednesday on Collins Landing Road, leaving one person dead.

According to TFD, firefighters were dispatched around 5:20 a.m. to reports of a structure fire. When units arrived to the scene off Blountstown Highway in southwest Tallahassee, they found a cargo trailer fully involved in flames. Crews began suppression efforts immediately and later confirmed one fatality at the scene.

Responding units included Rescue 14, Tanker 14, Engine 4, Truck 4, Battalion 1, FireMed 1, Battalion Chief 1 and Tanker 1. The Lake Talquin Volunteer Fire Department, Leon County EMS and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by TFD’s Fire Prevention Division in coordination with the State Fire Investigator.

No other details were provided on the circumstances of the blaze or about the victim. A TFD spokesperson did not immediately answer a call and text for more information.
