PANAMA CITY — North Bay Haven Charter Academy has hired Michael McCumbers as its new boys soccer coach.
McCumbers, a Panama City native, returns to Bay County after spending the past decade coaching in Nebraska. He played at the collegiate and professional levels and holds a pending U.S. Soccer Federation “C” license.
Most recently, McCumbers coached Sporting Nebraska at the Elite Club National League and Elite Club Regional League levels. Sporting Nebraska is an affiliate of Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City.
“We are absolutely thrilled to bring someone of Coach McCumbers’ caliber into our program,” NBH soccer director Jason Cole said. “His extensive coaching experience, combined with his network of collegiate coaches, will open doors for our student-athletes to continue their playing careers at the next level.”
McCumbers replaces Alexandria Everhart, who guided the Buccaneers for the past three seasons.
“Coach Everhart really raised the bar for our boys program, taking them to back-to-back regional tournaments for the first time in program history while also securing wins over Mosley and Bay, something we had never done before,” Cole said. “Our expectation is for Coach McCumbers to continue that upward trajectory. He has big shoes to fill, but I know he is up to the challenge.”
In addition to leading the Buccaneers, McCumbers will coach with Kings Hammer Bay United. His previous stops include Blast Academy, Mobile Bay FC, Sporting Lincoln and Norris High School.
North Bay Haven opens the regular season Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. against Destin High School at Bozeman Stadium.
