The No. 9 Florida State Seminoles dominated the Kent State Golden Flashes in Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday, winning 66-10 to become 3-0 on the season.
The offense was once again unstoppable, scoring touchdowns on nine of their 12 drives and gaining 775 yards of offense. They finished the game with 498 yards on the ground and eight touchdowns. Gavin Sawchul led the way, rushing for 97 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.
The defense had another great showing, completely shutting down Kent State’s offense. The Golden Flashes finished with 206 yards of offense and went 3-and-out four times.
The only blemish for FSU came in the second quarter when Tommy Castellanos was rolled up on by some linemen and limped off the field. He was ruled out for the rest of the game, but did run back to the sideline after a weather delay to plenty of cheers from the crowd.

Kent State chips away
The Golden Flashes scored their first points since the first quarter with a field goal, making it a 59-10 game with 12:41 to play. Kent State needed 14 plays to go 54 yards to set up the field goal.
Brock Glenn and Landen Thomas add on
Brock Glenn replaced Kevin Sperry at quarterback and led FSU on a touchdown in his first drive. He found a wide-open Landen Thomas in the endzone, it was Florida State’s first passing touchdown of the game. The Seminoles lead 59-7 with 5:02 to play in the third quarter.
Kam Davis keeps it going for FSU
Sophomore running back Kam Davis got in on the action in the third quarter, scoring the first touchdown of his career. The Seminoles now have 330 yards rushing and seven touchdowns, with five different players scoring. FSU leads Kent State 52-7 with 10:04 in the third quarter.
Jake Weinberg adds on for FSU, Tommy Castellanos ruled out
Jake Weinberg got in on the scoring to end the first half, making a 25-yard field goal as the half expired to put FSU up 45-7. He has made both of his field goals and all of his extra-point attempts on the season.
Quarterback Tommy Castellanos has been ruled out for the rest of the game by the broadcast crew after limping to the sideline earlier in the quarter. He was replaced by Kevin Sperry.
Jerry Wilson gets an interception
Florida State was able to end Kent State’s attempted two-minute drive with an excellent interception, his second of the season. He read the curl route by the wide receiver, jumped it, and was able to yank it away for him.
FSU comes out hot
The weather delay did not cause any issues for the Seminoles, who scored a touchdown on the first play back. Samuel Singleton Jr. scored on a 15-yard run, giving FSU a 42-7 lead with 2:16 to play in the first half. The weather delay served as a half-time for the game.
FSU vs. Kent State in a lightning delay
The Florida State and Kent State game is in a lightning delay as of 4:53 p.m. ET. FSU is up 35-7 with 2:39 to play in the second quarter. Prior to the lightning delay, FSU quarterback Tommy Castellanos limped off the field after getting rolled up on. He was replaced by true freshman Kevin Sperry.
Tommy Castellanos picked off
Castellanos threw his first interception of the season on 2nd down. It is his first turnover of the game and FSU’s third of the season. Kent State returned the ball to FSU’s 41-yard line, giving them their best field position of the day.
End of 1st: FSU 35, Kent State 7
The Seminoles are in complete control of the game and scored a program record 35 points in the first quarter. Tommy Castellanos is 5-6 for 142 yards passing and has seven carries for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Micahi Danzy has three touches for 176 yards and a touchdown.
Gavin Sawchuk punches it in again
Gavin Sawchuk had another strong drive for FSU, carrying the ball three times for 20 yards and his second touchdown of the game. He has 9 carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter alone. FSU leads 35-7 after the first quarter.
Micahi Danzy is going off
Micahi Danzy is going off in his first career start and scored his first touchdown of the game on a 64-yard reverse, which featured some great blocking and a broken tackle. He has already caught two passes for 112 yards and one carry for 64 yards and a touchdown. The Seminoles are up 28-7 with 3:18 in the first quarter.
FSU answers back
Florida State wasted no time answering back after Kent State’s touchdown. Tommy Castellanos connected with Micahi Danzy for a 65-yard gain on the first play before he punched it in from the 10-yard line on the next play to put FSU up 21-7 with 7:33 to play in the first quarter. Castellanos already has two rushing touchdowns and 122 yards passing.
Kent State strikes back with a long touchdown
The Golden Flashes are not going down quietly and scored on a 75-yard touchdown on their first play of the drive. The quarterback faked like he was running before a wide receiver got behind the defense. FSU now leads 14-7 with 8:08 left in the first quarter.
FSU’s offense marches down the field
FSU’s offense has not been stopped at all and moved right down the field on their second possession, going up 14-0 when Tommy Castellanos scrambled for a 12-yard touchdown. Micahi Danzy had an awesome 47-yard contested catch to start the drive.
Florida State’s offense strikes first
The Seminoles opened the game with the ball and marched right down the field. Gavin Sawchuk had a 40-yard run on the first play of the game and punched it in three plays later to give FSU a 7-0 lead with 13:39 to play in the first quarter. They ran the ball on all four plays of the drive for 65 yards.

Both FSU and Kent State have announced their uniforms for the game, and there will be plenty of white on the field. The Seminoles will be wearing white helmets with garnet jerseys and pants; it is the first time they have worn white helmets this season. Kent State is set to wear blue helmets with white jerseys and pants.
