Winn-Dixie’s newest store is opening Aug. 15 in Clay County, part of a renewed focus on the chain’s home state of Florida.
The first 100 customers in line at the Keystone Heights location will get a mystery gift card worth between $10 and $100, spokesperson Kelsey Wolford said in an email. The grand opening ceremonies will continue through the day, with prizes raffled off each hour, product samplings, giveaways, and activities for kids. Winn-Dixie will also be presenting a $1,000 check to Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High School.
The new store features Winn-Dixie’s redesign, showcasing a more modern shopping experience with an eye toward meal solutions, Hispanic foods, and customer convenience.

Winn-Dixie, which began as a chain in Miami in 1925 and is now based in Jacksonville, has had an interesting few years. In 2024, discount grocery chain Aldi U.S. acquired Southeastern Grocers Inc., which owned Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s Supermarket, and quickly began converting its new stores into Aldi’s smaller, no-frills format.
But within a year, a new consortium of private investors led by the CEO of the former company bought back many of the stores to form The Winn-Dixie Company. Stores in states other than Florida and Georgia were closed, the Harveys stores were turned into Winn-Dixie stores, and the new company put all its focus on Florida.
Where is the new Winn-Dixie in Florida?
The new location is at 7380 State Road 100, Unit 1, Keystone Heights, about 12 miles south of Starke in Northeast Florida.
The location was previously a Hitchcock’s Market, one of three that The Winn-Dixie Company acquired and converted after buying many of its stores back from discount grocery chain Aldi in 2025.
What is Winn-Dixie giving away at the grand opening?
The grand opening starts at 7:30 a.m. with a ribbon cutting and the check presentation, Wolford said. The first 100 customers in line will get a Winn-Dixie gift card worth between $10 and $100.
Festivities will keep going throughout the day, and prizes will be raffled off every hour, including three $500 Winn-Dixie gift cards, a YETI cooler, a Masterbuilt 710 Wi-Fi Digital Electric Smoker and a Blackstone grill. You must be 18 or older and present to win.
What is in Winn-Dixie’s new design?
The 100-year-old Winn-Dixie is joining other grocery chains such as Publix with a fresh new design and shopping experience.
Shoppers will see a new look and logo; an extensive produce department with organic options; a full-service deli with freshly sliced meats and cheeses, self-serve hot foods, prepared sandwiches and salads, and Winn-Dixie’s Lip Lickin’ Chicken offerings, including rotisserie chicken, popcorn chicken and wings; a dedicated seafood department with fresh seafood on ice and ready-to-cook meal offerings; a full bakery with fresh breads, pastries, cakes and desserts; a complete meat department; a wide variety of economical store brand items; slef-checkout lanes, and more.
Winn-Dixie is also leaning into serving its local Hispanic market, with Cuban and Puerto Rican rolls and tres leches cakes in the bakery, Hispanic favorites in the produce department, and culturally relevant grocery staples, fresh foods, and prepared favorites across the rest of the store.
More grocery chains expanding in Florida
Winn-Dixie isn’t alone in fighting for your grocery dollars.
Publix Supermarkets is opening new stores and converting older ones with its own redesign as fast as it can. The latest one, in Ruskin, opened on Aug. 13, and there are dozens more across the state in progress.
Aldi has been opening stores even faster, both new locations and the converted Winn-Dixie locations the company kept. The discount chain has opened more than 20 new Florida stores this year, with three more planned on Aug. 20.
Sprouts has opened several new stores in Florida this year, in Orlando, Lecanto, Naples, and Daytona Beach, with more in progress.
Trader Joe’s opened new locations in Daytona Beach and Melbourne at the end of 2025, and has confirmed a new store is coming to Sarasota , with plans for locations in Kissimmee, Maitland, and West Palm Beach.
Whole Foods opened a new Jacksonville store in May, and has plans for more in Bradenton, Doral, Sarasota, and Valrico.
