New Wawa planned for SW Williston Road in Gainesville

Wawa, the popular convenience store chain known for it made-to-order hoagies and 24/7 service, is expanding its footprint in Gainesville and Alachua County.

Where will the new Wawa be located?

An approved permit by the city of Gainesville has been granted for a 6,375-square-foot Wawa at 3349 SW Williston Road, next to Dutch Bros. Coffee. The site has been cleared and prepped, and workers could be seen March 30 working on the sidewalks.

How many gas pumps will the new Wawa have?

According to the permit, the store will have 12 fueling pumps.

Where are the other Wawa locations in Alachua County?

Another Wawa location also has been approved in the city of Newberry.

About Wawa

According to wawa.com, the convenience store chain’s roots began in 1902 when George Wood founded the Wawa Dairy. The first Wawa Food Market opened in April 1964 in Folsom, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia.

The company has since grown to more than 1,200 locations across the U.S., including over 300 in Florida.
