New national sweets shop serving frozen custard, shakes, sundaes and more planned for Pace

Pace could get a new business to satisfy your sweet tooth that’s planned on the corner of Boone Road and U.S. Highway 90 near Longhorn Steakhouse.

A Whit’s Frozen Custard restaurant is being proposed in the vacant building previously occupied by Anytime Storage at 4758 U.S. 90, the owners of the proposal, Graham Beresford and his father, confirmed to the News Journal. Beresford added that they’re hoping to get approval as soon as possible.

Whit’s Frozen Custard, as its name suggests, offers a variety of custards, toppings and sweet treats for customers with rotating flavors of the week.

The menu at Whit’s Frozen Custard isn’t limited to scoops of custard in a cup. It also offers quart- and pint-sized containers, and customers can get cookie sandwiches, custard cakes, custard floats and shakes too.

Their vanilla and chocolate custards are naturally gluten free, according to the company, and there are occasionally gluten-free choices in the flavor of the week and topping options as well. The franchise also offers vegan-friendly and no-sugar-added items.

Plans to redevelop the site into a drive-in restaurant were submitted to Santa Rosa County in early September.

The vacant building was previously occupied by Anytime Storage and developers plan to create a seven-space parking lot as well as a one-way path through the lot that will bring motorists onto Boone Road.

Whit’s Frozen Custard was founded in Granville, Ohio, by Chuck and Lisa Whitman in 2003.

The business now has nearly 100 stores over nine U.S. states, including three locations in Alabama, five in Georgia and just over two dozen stores across Florida. All of their Florida locations are located on the eastern side of the state, ranging from the Jacksonville area to Broward County in south Florida.

There are new Whit’s Frozen Custard shops coming to Sarasota and Stuart soon as well, and the Pace store would be the westernmost location in the Sunshine State.
