Denny Hamlin has been outrunning nearly everyone for several weeks now. Only bad breaks have kept him from bagging a handful of additional wins.
He’s also the most recent winner at Michigan International Speedway, host to this week’s Cup Series race, the FireKeepers Casino 400.
But you know what? Prior to last year’s win, Hamlin went 23 starts at Michigan since his most recent Michigan win, back in 2011. Just throwing that out there to make you think twice before assuming Hamlin will absolutely be the man to beat Sunday.
But don’t overthink it, he’s a solid favorite for good reason.
Denny Hamlin is defending Michigan winner and current Michigan favorite
+350: Denny Hamlin
+550: Christopher Bell
+600: Tyler Reddick
+900: Kyle Larson
+1100: Chase Briscoe
+1200: Ty Gibbs
Bell has been runner-up for two straight weeks. It’s only natural he’s running second here.
Chase Elliott heads up the next pack
+1300: Chase Elliott
+1400: Ryan Blaney
+1600: Chris Buescher, William Byron
+2000: Bubba Wallace, Carson Hocevar
+4000: Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano
+5000: Ross Chastain
Chastain and Logano are more than a year removed from their most recent Cup win. Just figured they should be reminded.
Several NASCAR race winners way down here
+6000: Alex Bowman, Daniel Suarez, Shane van Gisbergen
+7500: Austin Cindric, Erik Jones, Ryan Preece, Zane Smith
+15000: Michael McDowell
+20000: Austin Dillon
+25000: AJ Allmendinger, Austin Hill, Connor Zilisch, Josh Berry, Ricky Stenhouse, Riley Herbst
This seems fairly deep on the board for SVG, who’s been on quite a roll lately, at least by his oval-track standards.
Longshots include the usual suspects
+50000: John Hunter Nemechek, Noah Gragson, Todd Gilliland
+100000: Cole Custer, Ty Dillon
+250000: Cody Ware, JJ Yeley
I’ll say it again, it wasn’t that long ago when Gragson was considered a true up-and-comer.
