A Lakeland motorcyclist died after a collision with a vehicle May 5 on George Jenkins Boulevard.
Lakeland Police Department officers responded about 12:38 p.m. to a traffic crash in the 1600 block of George Jenkins Boulevard, LPD said in a news release. Just before the crash, a black Nissan SUV was traveling east, while a yellow motorcycle was traveling west.
Upon entering the intersection with Brunell Parkway, the Nissan made a left turn in front of the motorcycle, which struck the Nissan on the passenger side, the release said.
The Lakeland Police Department Patrol Units, Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department all arrived on the scene to provide life-saving measures. The motorcyclist was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
LPD identified the motorcyclist as Alexander Baerhold, 29, of Lakeland. The driver of the Nissan, Leah Sykes, 35, of Spring Hill, was not injured.
This remains an open and active investigation, LPD said. Anyone with additional information should contact investigating Officer Travis Payne at Travis.payne@lakelandgov.net.
