The Miami Dolphins, in need of secondary help, are adding veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas.
Here are five things to know about the new Dolphin:
What kind of player are the Miami Dolphins getting in Rasul Douglas?
Douglas is a 6-foot-2, 209-pound cornerback.
He turns 30 on Aug. 29.
Douglas is from East Orange, N.J., and attended Nassau Community College and West Virginia.
He was drafted by Philadelphia in the third round in 2017.
The Dolphins hope the version of Douglas they’re getting is closer to the 2023 model than the 2024.
In 2024, Douglas was graded as the 102nd-best corner out of 116 with a grade of 53.9.
But in 2023, he was No. 11 (of 127) with a grade of 81.0.
Last season with Buffalo, he started 15 games but had no interceptions and five passes defensed. Quarterbacks had a 122.0 passer rating when targeting his man, the worst of his career.
Douglas ranks among the top 25 active players with 19 career interceptions.
Young Rasul Douglas couldn’t afford dollar menu at McDonald’s
Douglas signed a $3 million contract, which isn’t much by today’s NFL standards.
But Douglas knows what it’s like on the other side of life.
Picture a young Rasul standing at the counter of his local McDonald’s, ordering off the dollar menu not by choice but because, well, it was the dollar menu. Now picture the cashier sliding a McDouble and fries toward him, him swiping his debit card … and getting declined.
“I was only grabbing two things for a dollar,” he once told PackersNews.com. “And I couldn’t even get that.”
Douglas’ way around the problem? He began working at McDonald’s so he could get free meals.
Rasul Douglas victimized ex-teammate Kyler Murray
In 2021, Douglas was signed by the Green Bay Packers off the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad.
That October, Douglas made the Cardinals pay for not protecting his rights. His first impactful play for the Packers came in a 24-21 victory over Arizona. It was clinched when Douglas intercepted a pass from Kyler Murray in the end zone with 12 seconds remaining.
Rasul Douglas sealed a win over Miami Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoa
The Dolphins once had a first-hand look at the damage Douglas could do.
On Christmas Day 2022, Douglas and the Green Bay Packers left Hard Rock Stadium with a 26-20 win.
The victory was sealed when Douglas intercepted a pass from Tua Tagovailoa, targeting Mike Gesicki, on the Miami 44-yard line with 1:29 left.
Rasul Douglas made history with Green Bay Packers
Anytime you can make history on a storied team like the Green Bay Packers, you’ve done something.
In his first season in Green Bay, Douglas scored on a 33-yard pick-6 against the Los Angeles Rams and a 55-yarder against the Chicago Bears.
It was the first time a Packer had two pick-6s in consecutive games since Hall of Famer Herb Adderley in 1965.
