MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins are signing rookie quarterback Cam Miller to their active NFL roster, according to his agent.
Miller was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the sixth round of the last NFL Draft.
Miller, 24, was a standout at North Dakota State and was scouted by Raiders minority owner Tom Brady.
“We liked him coming out of the draft,” Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith said, adding he showed conviction, toughness, timing and rhythm in college.
Smith noted this is an addition pointed toward the future.
The Dolphins entered Thursday, Jan. 1. with three quarterbacks on their active roster, so we’ll see how that shakes out.
Quinn Ewers is a starter. Zach Wilson has been backup. Tua Tagovailoa has been the emergency third quarterback.
Miller was a four-year starter and pre-draft scouting reports suggested he had some good touch and mobility.
Scouting reports suggested Miller does not have a big arm and did not always demonstrate consistent ball placement.
Tom Brady reportedly liked Miller’s fundamentals and potential. Brady was also once a sixth-round pick.
