Debbie Durham and her photo, Peter Pan Into the Light, won best-in-show at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens’ 45th annual Juried Photographic Exhibition, which is now on view in a virtual gallery at selby.org.
The show includes photographs that were taken at Selby Gardens’ two campuses: the 15-acre Downtown Sarasota campus and the 30-acre Historic Spanish Point campus in Osprey. Prizes were awarded to top photographs in the exhibition. The virtual exhibition will remain on view through Sept. 30.
“We’re deeply honored that nearly 300 gifted artists chose to express their vision of the natural beauty found in our two bayfront sanctuaries,” Selby Gardens president & CEO Jennifer Rominiecki said. “This virtual exhibition offers a stunning glimpse into the diverse landscapes and living art that make Selby Gardens such a special place.”
In addition to best-in-show, awards for first place were given in each of the five exhibition categories:
Ten additional photos were recognized with honorable mentions, including Art of the Butterfly Bush, Jonathan Tasler; Biting The Hand That Feeds You, Gary McNulty; Yayoi Kusama Leaf, Gonzalo Hernandez Jr.; Reincarnation: The Revival of the Atala Butterfly, Stephanie Leaver; Reaching up High, Joseph Vitone; Water Fountain, Debra Connolly; Grandeur in Miniature, Mary Valente; Buttonbush Bloom, Christopher Harrington; and Me and My Shadow, Bonnie Hammer; Purple!, James Hall.
Selby Gardens received nearly 300 submissions to this year’s exhibition. Entrants could submit up to three individual photos, which had to be taken within the past year at either the Downtown Sarasota campus or Historic Spanish Point campus of Selby Gardens.
