The Levy County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man and accused him of firing gunshots at a deceased man.
According to a Dec. 11 LCSO Facebook post, deputies on Dec. 5 responded to a Chiefland home following a report of a murder-suicide. Gavin Selfridge, 23, had called 911 after going to the home to check on the occupants after not hearing from them for several days.

When deputies arrived they found the homeowner, Robert Lee Carter, 58, and a woman deceased from apparent gunshot wounds, the post says. Investigators initially determined that Carter shot the woman and then shot himself.
Questions were raised, however, after investigators discovered Carter had multiple gunshot wounds from two different caliber weapons.
Detectives later determined the original murder-suicide scenario was correct. According to the LCSO, Selfridge, of Citrus Springs, was angered after finding Carter and the woman dead and fired additional shots into Carter using his own gun.
He was arrested on charges of tampering with evidence and abuse of human remains. His bail was set at $250,000.
