James Gladstone on why Jaguars signed Travon Walker to extension

The Jacksonville Jaguars and defensive end Travon Walker have agreed to terms on a contract extension.

Once the move was made official and announced by the team, GM James Gladstone highlighted why keeping Walker in Jacksonville for the long haul was a priority.

“Travon fits what we want to be and what we’re about as an organization,” said James Gladstone, via Jaguars.com. “His love for the game and his teammates is infectious and his determination to play through injury last season cemented our belief in him. His best football is still ahead of him, and we’re excited that will happen with the Jaguars.”

Walker brings a do-it-all presence to the defensive end position for the Jaguars. Along with his pass rush production, which includes recording back-to-back double-digit sack seasons and ranking in the top 25 of his position group in pressures in each of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he’s been a very stout run defender as well.

Going beyond Walker’s production on the stat sheet, his versatility provides defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile with flexibility as he builds out the gameplans and that makes it difficult for opponents to get a bead on what the Jaguars are doing up front.

As Campanile mentioned recently, “(Walker’s) versatility is really what enables us to do the things that we want to do.”

Walker to a four-year deal worth $110 million total and includes $77 million in guarantees, $50 million of which is fully guaranteed at signing. On average, that’s $27.5 million per season.
