Jaguars training camp observations led by a great day from QBs

The Jacksonville Jaguars practiced on Aug. 11 at the Miller Electric Center in full pads, their heaviest session of the week before going to New Orleans for a joint practice and the first preseason game Aug. 13-15. Camp observations on Day 11:

Player participation

The Jaguars could have put a team in the Tour de France with the number of players working on the side pumping the exercise bikes. Spotted pedaling away were LB Jack Kiser (a good sign for his return), OG Patrick Mekari, CB Jourdan Lewis, LB Jalen McLeod, DE Zach Durfee, DT Quinton Bohanna and tight end Quintin Morris ― the latter participating in individual drills, wearing an orange “no contact” jersey. … Not spotted at practice were TE Brenton Strange. … OT Cole Van Lanen remains on the PUP list but has been active with trainers doing individual agility work on the field.

Top plays

WR Jakobi Meyers made his best catch of the preseason when he laid out full and caught a pass from Trevor Lawrence with his fingertips, working against Montaric Brown.

WR Parker Washington caught his obligatory deep pass of the day down the left sideline, beating Travis Hunter.

Shout out to fourth-team QB Joey Aguilar, who may struggle to make the practice squad. He still dropped a nice pass over LB Parker Hughes to WR Michael Wortham on the final play of practice.

Thumbs up

LB Amari Burney, freshly signed by the Jaguars, came in full of bundled-up energy needing to be released (he hasn’t played since the final regular-season game with Las Vegas in 2024). During two reps in a blitz drill, he steamrolled Jaguars running backs who were attempting to pass block.

Thumbs down

There are still some annoying operational issues. Lawrence had to call a timeout to get one play straight, and there was a false start on a rep when Aguilar was the quarterback.

QB report

The Jaguars quarterbacks were mostly accurate, completing 15 of 21 passes in 11-on-11 team periods. Lawrence was 9 of 11, Nick Mullens 3 of 5, Cole Bradley 1 of 3 and Aguilar 2 of 2. The Jags ran the ball 18 times.

Upcoming schedule

The Jaguars will hold a walk-through session on Aug. 12 to prepare for the joint practice with the New Orleans Saints in New Orleans on Aug. 13. The Jags are off on Aug. 14 and play the Saints at the Caesars Superdome on Aug. 15 at 4 p.m. (FOX).

Practices open to the public (all free tickets have been distributed) are Aug. 19 (joint practice with the Carolina Panthers), Aug. 23 (Military Appreciation Day) and Aug. 25 (joint practice with the Tampa Bay Bucs).
