I read the recent letter mocking former President Joe Biden with disgust (“Sarasota reader says ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ stands test of time,” Aug. 6).
Not disgust over the writer’s sentiment – I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
What distressed me was the lack of sensitivity the writer showed toward Biden given Biden’s ongoing battle with bone cancer.
Mocking a suffering Biden shortly before his son, Hunter Biden, described his father’s debilitating pain during a televised interview is the purest example of the emptiness of President Donald Trump’s MAGA base.
They have no empathy, decency or thought beyond the cruelty of the moment.
This seems to be the temperature the entire MAGA movement has set for the country.
Cruelty is their culture now, and that is what concerns me the most.
Policies can be reversed, but the way we see each other as human beings is not so easily recovered.
