Right-hander Jackson Barberi earned Co-Pitcher of the Week honors from the SEC after a pair of standout relief performances for the Florida Gators.
Barberi, a sophomore, allowed zero earned runs over 6 1/3 innings while appearing twice against top-10 opponents this week. He threw three shutout, one-hit innings to earn the save against No. 10 FSU on Tuesday and added 3 1/3 no-hit innings to earn the series-clinching victory at No. 4 Arkansas. He gave up just one hit and two walks while striking out 13 batters.
Barberi has been Florida’s most consistent and most-used right-handed relief pitcher this season. He has appeared 12 times, shutting out opponents four times and earning two saves. Through 24 2/3 innings this year, Barberi holds a 2.19 ER, a 0.93 WHIP and opponents are batting just .132 off him. He has a 3.36 strikeout to walk ratio with 37 and 11, respectively.
The sophomore’s 36.3% strikeout rate is the third-highest figure on the team, behind only Joshua Whritenour (38.7%) and Liam Peterson (37.9%). He has the lowest line-drive rate on the team at 13.2% and a stellar 5.6% home-run-to-fly-ball percentage. Barberi is not draft eligible until 2027.
Texas’ Ruger Riojas is the other SEC Pitcher of the Week.
