Richard Bruce Cheney, known as Dick Cheney, died on Monday, Nov. 3, at 84 years old, after complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease, his family said in a statement.
Cheney was widely regarded as the most controversial and powerful vice president in the history of the office. Cheney was a driving force in former President George W. Bush’s decision to invade Iraq in 2003, after receiving intelligence that was later proven wrong.
Cheney was so influential that a movie was made about his time as vice president, released in 2018, called “Vice,” with an unrecognizable Christian Bale taking on heavy makeup and costuming to portray him.

“Vice” isn’t the only movie about Dick Cheney’s time as vice president. “Vice” was preceded by “W.” – a 2008 dramedy about George W. Bush’s time as president – starring Josh Brolin as the president and Richard Dreyfuss in a supporting role as Cheney.
But “Vice” focuses on the life of the VP with Sam Rockwell portraying George W. Bush and Amy Adams portraying Cheney’s wife, Lynne.
“Vice” was a quasi-fictional portrayal of Cheney’s time as vice president, peppered with satire, and was released to mixed reviews. However, the movie was nominated for 139 film awards in 2018 and won 35, according to IMDb, including an Oscar for “Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling.”
