Is 'Hannah Montana' coming back? Miley Cyrus teases 20th anniversary plans

Mark your calendars; a “Hannahversary” is on the horizon!

March 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of Disney Channel’s hit show “Hannah Montana,” with singer Miley Cyrus teasing “something really, really special” to celebrate the fictional superstar.

Cyrus, 33, first hinted at a planned celebration in an interview posted by SiriusXM on July 22 last year, coining the name “Hannahversary.” Social media lit up about the possibility of her Disney Channel persona returning to the stage after an 18-year hiatus.

More recently, E! News shared that Cyrus ditched her “usual brown waves for a Hannah Montana-inspired hair transformation” when appearing at the 37th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards on Jan. 3. When asked about the upcoming anniversary, she was tight-lipped about the plans.

“We’re working hard on them,” she told Variety in a video at the awards. “I can’t tell you.”

When did Disney Channel’s ‘Hannah Montana’ end?

Cyrus rose to fame from her starring role on “Hannah Montana,” which aired on Disney Channel from March 26, 2006, until Jan. 16, 2011, according to IMDb.

The 100-episode series starred Cyrus alongside Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso and her actual father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. Two “Hannah Montana” movies were also created and released by Disney.

The “Hannah Montana” character had five studio albums, according to Genius.

Is Miley Cyrus going on a ‘Hannah Montana’ tour?

As of Jan. 5, Cyrus has not announced plans to embark on a concert tour for the “Hannah Montana” 20th anniversary. However, USA TODAY noted last year that a tour would be unlikely.

During a May 2023 interview with British Vogue, Cyrus — whose last world tour was the 2014 Bangerz Tour — said she had no desire to go on tour. The “Something Beautiful” singer added that while she enjoys performing for her friends, “singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really the thing that I love.”

“There’s no connection. There’s no safety,” Cyrus explained. “It’s also not natural. It’s so isolating because if you’re in front of 100,000 people, then you are alone.”

When did Miley Cyrus last tour as Hannah Montana? Did she go to Florida?

The last time Miley Cyrus performed as Hannah Montana was in 2008 on the “Best of Both Worlds Tour,” according to Songkick.

The tour promoted her double-disc album “Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus” and showcased Cyrus’s first-ever concerts as herself. The tour was considered “highly successful,” selling out multiple shows and grossing over $54 million in total.

Cyrus performed sold-out concerts in four Florida cities: Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville and Orlando.

Is Miley Cyrus allowed to perform Hannah Montana songs?

Cyrus confessed last year during an interview on “The Ring” podcast that she “wasn’t allowed” to perform any of her Hannah Montana songs for several years.

“After I left Disney, I wasn’t allowed to perform any of the ‘Hannah Montana’ music,” she said on the Spotify podcast. “It’s not like I wanted to, I mean, performing ‘The Best Of Both Worlds’ between ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Wrecking Ball,’ wouldn’t have really made sense.”

However, after being crowned as a “Disney Legend” in August 2024, she was permitted to perform those songs in the future. She made Disney history as the youngest-ever “Disney Legend” at 31 during the ceremony at D23.

“Much has changed since that day, but at the same time, nothing has changed at all,” Cyrus said. “I stand here still proud to have been in ‘Hannah Montana.’ This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans. To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life.'”
