MIAMI GARDENS — What now?
With Tyreek Hill having suffered a major knee injury, how will the Miami Dolphins adjust their passing attack? Sizing up the remaining receiving options for Tua Tagovailoa:
Jaylen Waddle
Clearly Miami’s best option at wide receiver and, like Hill, a former team MVP. Although he began his career with 4,129 yards, the most by any Dolphin in his first four seasons, Waddle has not had a 100-yard day in nearly a calendar year, a span of eight games. He had two 100-yard games in 2024 after having six in 2022 and three in 2023. His average reception has dropped each of the past four years from 18.1 to 14.1 to 12.8 and the current 10.9.
TE Darren Waller
Best hope to fill the void? Veteran with two 1,100-yard seasons on his resume. Made long-awaited Dolphins debut vs. the Jets with two TD receptions. But he is 33. If he can continue to be an impact player, it would be a huge lift for this team.
Malik Washington
Fifth-round pick last season has shown flashes with quickness and shiftiness but his biggest impact to date has been as a return specialist (including 30.7 on kickoffs and a punt return for a score vs. New England). Washington has one rushing TD but has not scored a receiving TD in his career. This season he has eight receptions for 47 yards (5.9 average).
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine
Free-agent addition scored nine receiving TDs last year for Tennessee but has yet to find his footing in this offense. Has just four catches for 26 yards.
Dee Eskridge
Signed last year as a free agent. Has two catches for 17 yards this season. Was inactive half the time in 2024. Has contributed on special teams with a 28.5 kickoff-return average.
RB De’Von Achane
Versatile back ranks second on the team with 19 receptions for 143 yards, a 7.5 average and two TDs. Likely to see more passes coming his way with Hill out.
Tahj Washington
Seventh-round pick last year has not been active for a game.
