Now three training camp practices into training camp, Jacksonville Jaguars’ GM James Gladstone shared his initial impressions of Travis Hunter and his return to the field.
Hunter did not participate in the on-field portion during OTAs or minicamp as he continued to recover from a knee injury.
“I think it’s really good to see him treating his body in a very similar way that he did prior to the injury ever occurring,” Gladstone said while appearing on Actions Sports Jax. “A couple days ago, he gets a ball thrown high and inside and springs up without any flinch or hesitation. So those are things that you get really excited about. The mirror match at the corner position in those reps over the course of the first two days has been really clear and crisp. So excited about that progression and seeing how it unfolds here in the early going and into the latter portion of training camp.”
Hunter confirmed on Friday that he’s put on 10 pounds of muscle. And despite being at a heavier weight, he feels “lighter” on his feet.
That was evident when Hunter was clocked running 22.6 mph in a straight-line sprint. His new goal is to hit the 23 mph mark.
Although it is expected that Hunter’s role on defense will increase this season, the plan remains that he will play both ways. Through three practices, he’s played 24 snaps at cornerback in 11-on-11 periods and 15 at wide receiver, according to Michael DiRocco.
“It’s been great to be back,” Hunter said.
