The No. 15 Florida State Seminoles have won their first ACC series of the season.
FSU beat Wake Forest 2-0 on Saturday at David F. Couch Ballpark in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. They are now 15-3 overall and 2-0 in ACC play. They have been in control of the entire series, outscoring Wake Forest 12-0 through two games, and are in place for the sweep.
Trey Beard threw a gem for the Seminoles, pitching 6 2/3 innings with 14 strikeouts and just one hit. He outdueled Wake Forest starter Chris Levonas, who allowed one run over 6 innings with 10 strikeouts. Beard hit not allow a hit until the sixth inning.
FSU’s offense didn’t get its first hit until the fifth inning, but Nathan Cmeyla made sure it counted. The catcher hit a solo homer, his second home run in as many days. They got some insurance in the ninth inning when Eli Putnam singled home Brayden Dowd. The Seminoles had just four hits in the game, leaving seven runners on base.

Florida State clinched the series over Wake Forest with a 2-0 win on Saturday. Trey Beard and John Abraham combined for 16 strikeouts and one hit.

FSU went up 2-0 after Eli Putnam drove in Brayden Dowd with a two-out single. Will Bavaro followed it up with a walk, but they were stranded after Cal Fisher flew out to end the inning.

FSU added an insurance run in the top of the ninth thanks to a single by Eli Putnam, which drove in Brayden Dowd from second. Dowd was hit earlier in the inning and stole second.

John Abraham retired the first two batters he faced before walking a batter with two outs. It didn’t matter as he got the next batter to fly out, sending the game to the 9th.

John Abraham made short work of Wake Forest in the seventh, striking out the only batter he faced on three pitches to end the inning.
Florida State is making a pitching change
Trey Beard ended his sensational outing in the seventh, striking out two batters before FSU called for John Abraham. Beard allowed just one hit and a walk in 6 2/3 innings, striking out 14 batters.

Florida State had a great shot to add on in the top of the seventh after a two-out walk and single, but Cal Fisher struckout to end the threat. Brayden Down walked to start the inning, but was picked off.
Wake Forest makes a pitching change
The Demon Deacons have made a pitching change, replacing starter Chris Levonas with Rhys Bowie. Levonas allowed just one run over six innings on two hits with 10 strikeouts. Bowie has a 6.14 ERA in three appearances, pitching 7 1/3 innings.

Trey Beard gave up a double in the sixth, but kept it a 1-0 game with a strikeout and a groundout. He has struck out 112 batters in 6 scoreless innings, walking one batter on 78 pitches.

Beard is set to make his third start of the season for the Seminoles and will look to continue his good work as their No. 2 starter. He has pitched 10 innings and allowed two runs in his previous starts on four hits and three walks with 13 strikeouts. This will be his first time pitching against a ranked opponent this year.
Levonas is also making his third start of the season, and the sophomore is looking to continue his breakout season. He has allowed three runs in 11 innings on five hits and two walks, with 22 strikeouts.
