The FSU Seminoles held their first scrimmage of fall camp on Tuesday, and one of their top offseason additions was unable to participate.
Offensive coordinator Tim Harris Jr. revealed on Wednesday that they held running back Quintrevion Wisner out as he deals with “something minor.” He wasn’t the only offensive player who was unable to play, backup quarterback Malachi Marshall was also unable to play with a “slight injury.”
Wisner joined the Florida State football program this offseason after spending the first three years of his career with the Texas Longhorns. While he is the most experienced running back on FSU’s roster, Ousmane Kromah and Samuel Singleton Jr. have received plenty of praise this offseason and appear poised for big years.
Harris made it clear that while the coaching staff might not have mentioned Wisner as much as the other two backs this offseason, he has also been doing well in practice.
“He’s been practicing really well, actually,” Harris explained. “We saw a big jump from him from where he was in spring ball to the first four practices of camp. And we were all very excited about what he’s doing. He’s bringing a lot of good leadership to that room. And that’s helped our other backs too.”
Wisner, who is from Mexia, Texas, played in 38 games and made 21 starts for the Longhorns. He finished his Texas career with 369 carries for 1,734 yards and nine touchdowns, adding 66 receptions for 457 yards. Kromah and Singleton have combined to play in 34 games with four starts, all of which came last season.
The trio is expected to battle throughout fall camp as the coaching staff figures out a rotation to take advantage of the depth. With Mike Norvell back calling plays, there will also be plenty of plays with two running backs on the field, allowing them to take advantage of their different skill sets.
