FSU injury report: CB Karson Hobbs out for season with torn ACL

Florida State’s secondary suffered a significant setback Tuesday when transfer cornerback Karson Hobbs announced on Instagram that he has torn his ACL and will miss the entire 2026 season.

“I’m truly sorry things ended this way without getting a chance,” Hobbs wrote. “But I will be back better than ever, knowing that all the pain, the late nights and tears shed were worth it because with God anything is possible, and this shall pass. Till next year. League coming.”

The Cincinnati native was expected to bolster the Seminoles’ defensive backfield after transferring from Notre Dame, where he appeared in 16 games over two seasons. Hobbs recorded seven tackles, one interception and one pass breakup with the Fighting Irish.

Florida State coach Mike Norvell said Sunday, following the team’s latest scrimmage, that several players were dealing with injuries, though he did not specify Hobbs’ condition at the time.

During a post-practice press conference, Norvell confirmed Hobbs’ injury. He said th

“So disappointed for the young man, because you really saw some progress coming from him,” Norvell said.

Hobbs entered fall camp competing for snaps at nickel cornerback and was viewed as a key depth piece in the secondary. His loss leaves Florida State thinner at cornerback less than two weeks before its season opener against New Mexico State.

While the Seminoles will look to fill the void with other defensive backs on the roster, Hobbs’ injury removes an experienced transfer who was expected to contribute immediately. Florida State now heads into the final stretch of preseason camp facing questions about its depth in the secondary ahead of the 2026 season.
