Florida State men’s basketball head coach Luke Loucks continues to shape the foundation of his program, announcing two promotions ahead of the 2026-27 season. The Seminoles announced Wednesday that Kyle Washington has been promoted to assistant coach, while Aiden Malone will serve as the program’s new director of basketball operations.
Both staff members were part of Loucks’ inaugural season in Tallahassee and have now earned larger roles as Florida State prepares for year two under its new head coach.
Washington moves into an on-court coaching position after spending last season as Florida State’s director of video and scouting. Before joining the Seminoles, he was an assistant coach at Iona and also held coaching and player-development roles at Loyola Chicago.
In announcing the promotion, Loucks credited Washington’s impact from the outset of his tenure, noting his basketball knowledge, ability to build relationships and the respect he has earned throughout the program. Loucks also said Washington had drawn interest from other high-major programs, making it important for Florida State to invest in his future and recognize his contributions.
Malone steps into the director of basketball operations role after serving as a graduate assistant during Loucks’ first season. A longtime member of the Seminoles’ program, Malone originally joined Florida State in 2021 as a student manager under former head coach Leonard Hamilton before advancing to graduate assistant responsibilities, including recruiting support, opponent scouting, and day-to-day team operations.
Loucks praised Malone’s steady growth within the program, highlighting his organizational skills, work ethic and institutional knowledge. The promotion rewards someone who has spent the past five years learning nearly every facet of the operation while helping bridge the transition between coaching staffs.
The promotions further solidify a staff that Loucks assembled after returning to coach his alma mater last offseason. With Washington taking on an expanded coaching role and Malone assuming oversight of basketball operations, Florida State continues building continuity as the Seminoles prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.
