If you travel on Alligator Alley and you are still paying the toll with cash, there are only a few days left before that will no longer be an option.
A social media campaign is underway for the Florida Department of Transportation’s SunPass alerting motorists that as of Aug. 3 cash will no long be accepted for traveling on Alligator Alley, the 78-mile stretch of Interstate 75 in South Florida connecting Naples and Fort Lauderdale.
Here is what was posted on the SunPass FDOT X page, formerly Twitter:
Coming soon: Electronic tolling on Alligator Alley. Cash will no longer be accepted, keeping traffic moving more efficiently. Pay with SunPass, any other Florida accepted transponder, or Toll-By-Plate. Don’t wait, get your SunPass now at SunPass.com and start saving!
Alligator Alley has two main toll plazas: the East Toll Plaza (Mile Post 25) and the West Toll Plaza (Mile Post 100). You only pay the toll for the plaza you pass through depending on your direction or entry point, meaning a full crossing includes tolls at the plazas or a single flat fee depending on your complete route.
