The Miami Dolphins welcomed their veterans back on Tuesday and held their first session of training camp on Wednesday, while there’s was nothing drastic to react to from the first day, Day 2 on Thursday was a different story.
Before the session even began, head coach Jeff Hafley explained that the team would be working more than they had the day prior, as they break each week into a high, medium and low day to keep the players from overloading.
According to the beat writers in attendance, Miami’s offense struggled mightily at the team’s Baptist Health Training Complex on Thursday. Those there saw everyone participating, with the exception of wide receiver Chris Bell and cornerbacks Darrell Baker Jr. and Storm Duck.
Miami’s offense struggled mightily on Day 2. South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s Chris Perkins noted that Malik Willis wasn’t great, as he had two passes intercepted, but one of them could’ve been a sack. Another of Willis’ passes would’ve been an interception if the defender held on to the ball.
Perkins also noted that Patrick Paul shined in an 11-on-11 rep against Chop Robinson, with the left tackle put the linebacker on the ground. Also on the offensive line, Gottleib Ayedze has reportedly been getting a lot of work on both sides of the offensive line. Miami needs someone to step up as a swing tackle for 2026.
The Palm Beach Post’s Joe Schad pointed out that running back Ollie Gordon II had at least one strong run, but he fumbled (forced by cornerback Chris Johnson) for the second day in a row. He also identified Zayne Anderson and A.J. Green III as the two players who intercepted Willis. Rookie safety Michael Taaffe also nearly intercepted quarterback Quinn Ewers.
The Miami Herald’s C. Isaiah Smalls II highlighted Robinson for a “phenomenal day” on defense, as the former first-round pick had a would-be sack, stuffed the run well and was around a fumble. He also mentioned that wide receiver Tutu Atwell dropped several passes, which could cost him in the most intriguing position battle of the summer.
Offenses are usually behind defenses to start training camp, so this shouldn’t be overly surprising, but we’ll see if the offense starts to catch up over the coming days and weeks.
