Florida shooting incident under investigation

Fort Pierce Police are investigating a gunfire incident in which at least two people are suspected to have fired into an occupied home, a police major said Aug. 12.

Police about 11:45 p.m. Aug. 10 went to the incident in the 700 block of North 32nd Street.

“When the officers arrived on scene, they absolutely saw evidence of a shooting, such as multiple shell casings from different caliber firearms at the location, along with bullet (damage) on the structure of the residence as well as the surrounding ground area,” Maj. Michael Santiago said.

While three people were in the home at the time, none were harmed, he said. Santiago said those in the home did not see the shooters.

Witnesses reported a silver-colored vehicle “speeding away from the immediate area.”

Santiago said at least two shooters were involved.

“All occupants inside that location all claim they have no idea why anybody would be shooting at them,” Santiago said.

The case, he said, is active.

“We are continuing to canvass and trying to identify additional witnesses or maybe some surveillance footage that someone may have caught along the way,” Santiago said.

Those with information are asked to call Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 800-273-TIPS or police at 772-467-6800.
