Florida high school football season is right around the corner with summer break soon to give way to fall camp, practices and more preseason gridiron action.
Students in Palm Beach County School District are poised to return to class on Monday, Aug. 11, 2025 to start the 2025-26 school year.
The FHSAA uses a standardized calendar to assign each week of the school year a number 1 through 52. Week 1 begins with the first Sunday in July.
While the Florida High School Athletic Association has yet to release the official calendar for upcoming year, a look back at recent start dates can give fans a reasonable expectation of when fall practice will open.
When does high school football start in Florida?
The official starting date for high school football in Florida has not yet been announced.
In recent years, the FHSAA has designated the first date of non-contact high school football practice for Week 4 or Week 5 of the organization’s official calendar.
Based on recent schedules, high school football fans can expect the official practice window to open on Monday, July 28 or Monday, Aug. 4.
Last season, non-contact high school football practices were allowed on July 29, 2024, two weeks prior to the start of classes in Palm Beach County on Aug. 12.
High school football preseason important dates
In recent years, the first allowable practice date with contact has fallen six days after the opening of non-contact practice. This serves as a safety precaution to allow student-athletes to reacclimate to conditioning.
Preseason Classic competition has been held two calendar weeks after the start of non-contact practice.
The first regular season games have been allowed to be scheduled three calendar weeks after the start of non-contact practice.
