An 18-year-old motorcyclist is dead after a crash on the Mathews Bridge Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said around 10:20 a.m., an 18-year-old man was riding a motorcycle at a high rate of speed while heading westbound in the left lane on the bridge.
The motorcycle crashed into the back of an SUV traveling in the same direction, FHP said.
The teen was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but ultimately died from his injuries. The FHP crash report states the rider was wearing a helmet.
The driver of the SUV, a 29-year-old Jacksonville man, and three other passengers, including two children, were not injured.
The crash shut down all westbound lanes of the bridge for hours on Sunday.
