Elite edge names FSU in top five, decision to come Monday

After missing out on multiple edge options, Florida State is back to the drawing board at the position. They have extended an offer to three-star LSU commit DeAnthony Lafayette, but they’re also a finalist for one of the top edge prospects in the country.

Four-star Jaquez Wilkes is getting down to the wire in his recruitment. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder has narrowed his list to five schools and will announce his decision on Monday. The programs he is choosing from are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, Miami Hurricanes, and Florida State.

Wilkes is the No. 95 overall recruit and the nation’s No. 15 edge per Rivals industry rankings. They have deemed him the No. 6 prospect out of Alabama as well.

During his first two years of high school ball, Wilkes put up 189 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and six sacks. Wilkes was dominant as a junior with 117 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and two interceptions. He is also one of the top running backs in Alabama, as he ran for 312 yards and five touchdowns to lead Wadley High School to a 37-7 win in the 1A state title game.

Wilkes has taken visits to Auburn, Texas A&M, and Miami during the spring and summer. He had visits set up with Florida State, but they never materialized. So, the Seminoles being in his top five despite that is pretty impressive.
