Florida voters will choose party nominees for state chief financial officer, or CFO, in the Aug. 18 primary election, setting up a November contest for one of the state’s three Cabinet offices.
The race features an appointed Republican incumbent seeking a full term, a GOP challenger and two Democrats vying for their party’s nomination. The 2026 general election will be held Nov. 3.
The chief financial officer serves as a member of the Florida Cabinet, acts as state fire marshal and oversees the Florida Department of Financial Services. The office manages billions of dollars in state assets, regulates portions of the insurance industry and oversees consumer protection and fraud investigations.
Florida has a closed primary system, meaning only registered Republicans and Democrats may vote in their respective party primaries. Voters with no party affiliation cannot vote in the primary.
