I’m responding to the recent letter calling for e-bikes to be banned on the Legacy Trail (“Unsafe e-bikes are ruining Sarasota’s Legacy Trail. Ban them,” Feb. 23).
I have an e-bike I use on the Legacy Trail.

Banning them would push me out into traffic.
I use the trail for safety.
There are better ways to coexist, if that in fact is the letter writer’s objective.
But I suspect the letter writer has other prejudices against the e-bike.
A speed limit is one way to make it safer.
Education on safer practices for e-bikers – like always ringing your bell when passing people – is another way to increase safety.
These small acts will solve many of the practical problems.
As far as prejudices against e-bikes, that’s a personal problem.
