A 62-year-old man is dead after his Dodge Ram pickup truck crashed into a tree along U.S. 27 in Jefferson County on Aug. 13.
Cpl. PJ Shaw, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson, said troopers were summoned to the scene on Apalachee Parkway and Gamble Road at about 1:50 p.m.
She said the accident involved a single vehicle and single occupant. The truck was traveling westbound on US Highway 27 when it crossed the center median and crossed the eastbound lanes of the roadway before traveling onto the south shoulder. Once on the south shoulder, the left side of the truck collided with a large tree.
The driver, an Inverness resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt, according to FHP.
Initially traffic was closed in both directions on U.S. 27. But, Shaw said that, as of 4 p.m., westbound lanes were reopened. As of 4:30 p.m., the eastbound lanes of US Highway 27 are closed in the area and traffic is being rerouted.
