ST. LUCIE COUNTY — Dollman Beach will face intermittent closures starting Jan. 5, county officials announced in a Dec. 18 news release.
The beach, at 9200 South Ocean Drive, will be undergoing a $14.7 million renourishment effort as part of the South St. Lucie County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project.
The anticipated project completion date is June 30.
The South St. Lucie County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project is a federal beach nourishment program along about 3.3 miles of Atlantic Ocean shoreline on South Hutchinson Island, from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Range Monument R-98 in St. Lucie County to the Martin County line.
After initial construction, renourishment is planned every 18 years, resulting in two periodic renourishments over a 50‑year period.
The sand for the project is to come from St. Lucie Shoals, about 3½ miles offshore.
