Publix’s 10-items-or-less checkout lanes will soon be a thing of the past. Do you like the change?
The grocery store giant with more than 30 stores in Palm Beach County will no longer set any item number limit for any of its checkout lanes, including its express lanes. Publix is in the process of implementing the change at all of its stores.
“To better serve our customers and improve checkout efficiency, we recently updated our express lane process to provide associates with greater flexibility in managing customer flow,” said Lindsey Willis, Publix media relations manager via email Aug. 10. “Rather than adhering to a specific item limit, our focus is on reducing wait times and ensuring customers can be served as efficiently as possible.”
People expressed mixed feelings about the change on social media. Some appreciated that the express lanes are no longer bound to a certain number of items and others thought the move was pointless.
