As expected, an early-morning rocket launch in Florida July 30 generated a sonic boom.

It still sent residents to Google to asking whether there was a rocket launch and whether what they heard really was a sonic boom.

The Falcon 9 rocket’s first-stage booster returned to Cape Canaveral Landing Zone 2 about eight minutes after liftoff, which is what gave the sonic boom heard by residents.
