After a good showing at region, three Destin High Sharks will be hitting the road to compete at the Florida High School Athletic Association girls weightlifting state competition on Feb. 13.
The three representing Destin High at the state level are Elena Nava, Tristan Little and Soleh Nieves-Cortez.
This will be the Sharks’ first time to compete at state after becoming eligible to participate in the FHSAA.
And Coach Langston Stove likes their chances.
“Elena could possibly win this,” Stove said.
“All three have got a good chance to place and medal. They have been working hard,” Stove said.
At the 1A Region meet on Jan. 31 at North Bay Haven in Panama City, Nava took first in Olympic and Traditional in the 119-weight class.
Little placed second in Olympic and Traditional at the 109 weight class, while Nieves-Cortez took third in Olympic and Traditional in the same class.
Kayla Patterson placed sixth in Olympic for her weight class.
Prior to the region meet, the same four Sharks rolled through the district competition.
“Elena swept her competition like she has all year, being the lone senior,” Stove said.
“The three juniors have done a great job all year and hit the lifts they needed at the right time in the district meet,” he said.
Nava, Little, and Nieves-Cortez will compete at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland on Feb. 13 for a chance at a medal.
